Digicel flipbook forum4/12/2024 ![]() It won't be fantastic for awhile bc I do think there is a limit for the detail young kids are able to see, I certainly remember being frustrated why I couldn't get my animations to look like the ones I saw on YouTube in terms of quality, but it's still such an amazing skill to have growing up and it made getting into college and getting internships a cakewalk for me. There are some great tutorials on basic animation for just about any software online tho and I suggest he sits through a couple of those to learn. Idk anything Abt SFM but it could be more convenient if he wants to animate characters he knows without having to model them. I started with basic Minecraft rigging and animation bc I was inspired by captain sparklez and Slamacow. Blender is definitely not too complicated for someone of that age as long as they are passionate and willing to be patient learning! ![]() I want to add that I started animating in Maya when I was 10. Just use Gimp, Photoshop, or another image editing software to draw/create a character and then cut it up into peices for animation. It's a great way to start learning about animation skeletons and how to build them without all the complexity of Blender. With these programs you can create your own 2D characters out spirtes and images, connect them together with bones and animate them. You can draw, trace, scan or shoot animation directly into the computer to paint it, sync it with audio and make movies that can be played back on any computer or TV. If he is interested in 2D animation or 3D animation is too hard, I would recommend taking a look at Spine or DragonBones, Spine being a paid program and DragonBones being a similar but free program. DigiCel FlipBook is easy to use software for hand drawn and stop motion animation. It's kinda just all there and is pretty intuitive which makes it a great learning tool for a beginner. He probably should switch to Blender or Unreal Engine once he has the basics down, but with source Film Maker you don't have to worry too much about 3D modeling, texturing, weight painting, programming, character rigging, scene setup, or too many keyboard shortcuts. It's also a good stepping stone to go from games to animation if he already plays a lot of games. There are plenty of well made tutorials created by the makers of the software and It's all free. It's built on top of the source engine made by Valve and has many premade assets set up and ready to go. If he's looking into 3D animation, a good program to start learning the basics would actually be Source Film Maker.
